Background

The issue of limited water resources is recognized as a global problem along with climate change.
In addition to maintaining and improving the quality of water discharged from business sites into public waters, such as rivers and the sea, Denka recognizes the importance of using water resources efficiently given how essential they are for the continuation of our production activities.
We utilize water resources effectively to generate hydroelectric power.
There is also a connection between water resources and climate change. With certain bases predicted to be affected by drought, heavy rains, floods and other disasters, we believe it is important to carry out risk assessments and prepare for any projected risks.

Examples of concrete efforts

In FY2021 and FY2022, we continued to use water risk mapping (Aquaduct) to assess water-related risks at each site within the Denka Group. In regard to our domestic plants, we have also commenced a more detailed risk assessment, evaluating the current volumes of water withdrawal, discharge and circulation. There was almost no change in the volume of water used in FY2022 compared to the previous year. We plan to continue to work on reducing our water consumption, with a focus on maintaining the integrity of the pipes and increasing the recovery and utilization of water.
