Health and Productivity Management

Guidelines fo Actions
Guidelines fo Actions

To protect the well-being of our human resources and their families, the entire Denka Group comes together to implement activities for health and productivity management, including encour-aging employees and their families to stay healthy. These activities are based on our offices' ex-isting labor safety and health systems and also involve the cooperation of health insurance asso-ciations and labor unions, with the new Health Promoting Sec. playing a central role.

Denka will stay focused on the creation of an environment where each one of its employees shares its core value and is committed to the maintenance and enhancement of their health to enrich their own lives.

Promotion System

In order to promote health and productivity management integrated with corporate management, the Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) serves as the Chief Healfh Management Officer, and we are promoting health and productivity management in collaboration with our health insurance union, industrial physicians and other medical professionals, and labor unions.
At each of our bases, such as factories, we provide feedback on health issues and the status of policy implementation once a year from the secretariat. In addition, we provide various types of support from the secretariat to strengthen the promotion of health and productivity management at each base.

Promotion System

Furthermore, we promote these initiatives in conjunction with our efforts for occupational safety and health and security and disaster prevention, and disclose our specific initiatives, policies, systems, and indicators as follows.

Health Issues and Targets

In 2022, we formulated a Health and Productivity Management Strategy Map to clarify the connection between the targets of each initiative based on health management investment and the two objectives of health management, namely, "“creating an environment where each individual employee is able to fully demonstrate their capabilities" and "enhancing the health and well-being of its employees and their families"
To realize a company where employees can feel self-growth and want to come to work tomorrow, we aim to create workplace environments in which employees can work energetically both physically and mentally, setting specific improvement targets of reducing high-stress employees for the mental aspect and increasing employees with appropriate weight for the physical aspect. To achieve the improvements mentioned above, we will position the improvement of exercise habits and smoking as priority issues and promote the development of measures accordingly.
Based on the results of our analysis of health issues, we have added the worsening risk of lifestyle-related diseases and the aging of employees as priority issues, set the strengthening of approaches to at-risk groups and reducing falls as targets, and strengthened related measures.

The Company has started the centralized management of employee health checkup data and, based on the analysis of these data, has set the goals below and is implementing measures aimed at preventing the onset and aggravation of lifestyle-related diseases in conjunction with the health insurance union. In the future, we will continue to support the well-being of our employees so that they can work in good health both physically and mentally.

Initiatives for the realization of health and productivity management
1) Mental Health Care
Stress check
The Company conducts stress checks once a year to support self-care for stress prevention and stressor reduction by allowing each employee to understand his/her own stress condition.
In addition, the Company closely collaborates with industrial health staff to conduct interviews with industrial physicians for employees who have been identified as having high stress responses.
Furthermore, the Company conducts group analyses at the organizational level to understand overall health risks, the status of employees with high stress, and stress factors, and makes improvements to workplaces and working environments to reduce risks.
Support from external specialized organizations
Our company has established a 24-hour health consultation service provided by specialists such as doctors for employees and their families. In addition to mental health counseling, the service supports employees' physical and mental health management by responding to a wide range of consultations on health and medical care.
Expansion of employee benefits
In order to promote health through a fulfilling private life and refreshment of mind and body, we have established various welfare benefit plans for employees and their families.
Employees are free to use welfare benefit menus covering a wide range of categories, including accommodation, gourmet food, leisure, and sports, supporting the realization of a work-life balance.
2) Lifestyle-related diseases
Specific Health Checkups and Specific Health Guidance
At all of our domestic business sites, we include specific health check items in the items for regular health checkups, and have established a system that allows employees to check their risk of lifestyle-related diseases at least once a year.
We are also working to improve the implementation rate of specific health guidance in cooperation with health insurance societies.
Smoking cessation support
As a measure to strengthen our smoking cessation activities, we introduced remote smoking cessation guidance last year, and to further strengthen these activities, we have added support for smoking cessation clinics and subsidies for the purchase of smoking cessation aids (patches and gums), allowing smokers to choose measures that suit their circumstances. In addition, we are gradually establishing a non-smoking environment with the goal of completely eliminating smoking areas at all our business sites by 2026.
Introduction of health support app
As part of the population approach, we are developing a health support app using smartphones. The app supports employees' voluntary health promotion by managing daily steps and physical condition, improving health literacy through health quizzes and columns, and establishing daily exercise habits through individual and group events that compete for the number of steps.
Labor and management jointly sponsored walking competition
In co-sponsorship with the labor union, we held a walking compitition to compete for the average number of steps taken by teams at our domestic business sites. In addition to the President's Award given to the overall top teams, we also set up Labor Union Awards and Pitar Prize for the top teams at each site, and after the end of the competitive event, we displayed the award ceremony at each business site. These initiatives created a mechanism to excite the entire event, including the lower-ranked teams, which contributed not only to the alleviation of lack of exercise but also to the promotion of communication. The walking contest started in FY2021 and has been held every year as an event co-sponsored by labor and management. In May 2025, 183 teams with 1,187 participants took part.

3) Fall Accident Prevention
Holding of falling risk assessment meeting
As the aging of employees is progressing and the same trend is expected in the future, we held a fall risk measurement meeting at major bases to strengthen company-wide efforts to prevent falls.
In addition to measurement, by conducting exercise practice guidance based on the measurement results, we will strengthen participants' ownership and awareness of activities to be practiced thereafter. In addition, we are also working on initiatives to visualize risks by aggregating measurement results and promoting measures at each base.

4) Disease Prevention
Holding health promotion seminars
In 2023, we designated the last week of May as "Denka Health Week," and in fiscal 2024, we will hold seminars every day to improve the quality of sleep, address health issues specific to women, relieve shoulder and lower back pain, and learn how to enjoy alcohol and tobacco in moderation. We also held health management seminars several times a year.
  • Number of seminar attendees during Denka Health Week 2024: Approximately 500

Subsidy by health insurance union
As part of our health care program, we provide free employee health checkups, cancer and gynecology screenings, and influenza vaccinations, as well as cost subsidies for employees' families and free periodontal disease risk tests.
5) External Initiatives

Our company is also actively promoting the health of our partner companies, such as our business partners, and contributing to the health of society as a whole.
① Development and provision of vaccines and other pharmaceuticals
② Holding study sessions and health events with external parties such as partner companies

Setting health KPIs

We have started the centralized management of employee health checkup data, and based on the analysis of these data, we set KPIs and implement measures aimed at preventing the onset and aggravation of lifestyle-related diseases in collaboration with the health insurance association and the Health Promotion Department. Most recently, we have started a remote smoking cessation program and strengthened specific health guidance. Going forward, we will support our employees' well-being so that they can work in good health both physically and mentally.

Certification as Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organization, White 500

This certification system honors corporations that practice particularly excellent health management based on initiatives for health issues in local communities and health promotion initiatives promoted by the Japan Health Conference. The top 500 corporations certified as health management excellent corporations are then certified as White 500.
In January 2021, we established the Health Promotion Office as the executing organization for these initiatives, and in April of the same year, we formulated the Health Management Declaration, which articulates our principles and action guidelines for health management. We have implemented various measures, including starting centralized management of employee health checkup data, setting KPIs based on analysis of these data, collaborating with industrial health staff and health insurance unions, introducing remote smoking cessation guidance and health support apps, strengthening specific health guidance, and regularly holding health promotion seminars.
In the future, we will continue our health promotion initiatives to create a company where employees can work with vigor and vitality, feel a sense of self-growth, and maintain a state of compliance with certification standards.
