Safety Management System
Denka has appointed the President as the head of the Safety Measures Headquarters, which is the core of safety and health management, and established a monitoring system for safety through the Board of Directors.
As the management system of the Safety Measures Headquarters, important matters reported from each business establishment including the Health and Safety Committee are reported to the Executive Officer in charge of Environment and Safety, and reported to the Board of Directors once a month.
The Executive Officer in charge of Environment and Safety oversees safety, security, health, quality, and sustainability.
Safety review meetings are held regularly by the officers in charge of environment and safety in order to motivate each business site regarding occupational safety and health, security management, and to coordinate policies. At these meetings, we confirm priority implementation items for each business site based on company-wide policies, discuss progress and issues, and also have dialogue with people at all levels to identify health and safety management issues and provide feedback to company-wide policies.
Conferences aimed at identifying potential dangers related to explosion, fire and leakage posed by each manufacturing process and formulating countermeasures.
At Denka, we have established company-wide risk assessment guidelines based on our basic policy on occupational safety and health and security and disaster prevention. We regularly conduct risk assessments including the safety of existing facilities and plants. Specifically, we conduct risk assessments including safety management systems, unsafe behaviors of workers at the site, and the safety of existing facilities and plants at manufacturing bases within the Denka Group on a regular basis and make improvements. In daily activities at each base, regular patrols, fixed-point observations, etc. are conducted by safety and health personnel and on-site supervisors at each business establishment. Furthermore, we conduct overall reviews at meetings led by executive officers in charge of safety and check the progress of improvements.
At each stage from research and development to commercialization, we hold design review meetings to extract and eliminate risks prior to commercialization. We conduct risk assessments when developing new products, introducing new equipment, and starting new projects. By conducting pre-emptive safety assessments, we strive to prevent occupational accidents.
Denka has appointed the President as the head of the Safety Measures Headquarters, and the Environmental & Safety Department, which is a corporate department of the Denka Group, oversees and supports the Group's safety and health activities.
At each of the Denka Group's business sites, Safety and Health Committees are held every month with representatives from labor and management as members, and matters related to safety, health, and the promotion of health for all employees at the business sites are investigated and discussed, and specific measures are considered and promoted in a collaborative manner by labor and management. The minutes and decisions of these Safety and Health Committees are shared with all employees at the business sites.
At the meeting bodies of group companies in Japan and overseas, personnel from the Denka Mother Factory also participate to share safety and health policies and activities.
In fiscal 2020, we held a web-based meeting to report on safety initiatives conducted by all logistics divisions. In addition, we conducted safety rule education for first-time drivers entering our premises, as well as yellow card (emergency contact card) training for logistics disasters and accidents, which is regularly held by our logistics contractors, to facilitate the exchange of opinions on logistics safety and raise safety awareness.
In fiscal 2022, we will continue to promote the review of logistics operations and prevent logistics disasters through the promotion of the White Logistics Movement, in addition to continuing various activities for logistics safety.
Yellow Card Training
Denka has set a target of 0.2 or less for the frequency rate of occupational injuries and illnesses for the fiscal year 2030, and is promoting various initiatives in accordance with its basic policy on occupational health and safety and security.
